Visas
All travellers except East African Countries’ citizens need full Visas to enter Tanzania. For breaking your journey in Nairobi you will need a Transit Visa.
- EEC passport and US visa fee is $100 for both 6 months single and 12 months multiple entry.
- All Non U.S and EEC. Passports visa fee is $50.00 for single entry and $100 for double entry.
- Transit Visa for all is $20
You can obtain a Visa from Tanzanian or Kenyan Embassy in your own country or at entry points in Tanzania and Kenya when you arrive.
Starting Point of your Safari
When you first arrive in Tanzania you arrive at the 3 main airports: -
Dar es Salaam International Airport (DAR)-for onward passage to Zanzibar and Southern Tanzania Safaris
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)- For Northern Tanzania Safaris and fly to Zanzibar
Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) - Next destination to Northern or Southern Tanzania Safaris
If you decide to come to Tanzania for safaris or climb Mt Kilimanjaro, you need to land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, north of Tanzania near Arusha or come to Tanzania via Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. From Nairobi you drive to Arusha (4.30 hrs) or fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport. If you land in Dar es Salaam then you need to drive to Arusha or fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport. From starting point in Zanzibar, you need to fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport to start your Tanzanian Safari.

Airlines to bring you to Tanzania
From UK- British Airways and Kenya Airways in corporation with KLM. Both Airlines operate direct flights daily to Nairobi and then you fly ti DAR, JRO or DAR. British Airways fly directly to DAR 3 times a week. Virgin (direct) and Ethiopian Airlines (via Addis Ababa) are other Airlines flying to Nairobi.
From Europe- Main Airlines are KLM and Kenya Airways, from Amsterdam direct to JRO and then travelling to Dar after dropping passengers at JRO.
From USA or Canada - You travel to London Heathrow or Schipol, Amsterdam and fly to Tanzania as mentioned as above.
From India - Mumbai Airport will be most suitable to fly from to arrive at Dar es Salaam airport and take the onward journey to JRO for Northern Tanzania Safaris. However you can take flights from Delhi Airport to Dubai (stay couple of days in Dubai) and fly to Nairobi. Kenya Airways, Emirates and Air India are the main Airlines from India. Lately, Ethiopian Airlines fly you from Delhi, Addis Ababa and then to Nairobi. It may be possible that Jet Airways will soon fly to Nairobi as well.
Travel from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar
Ferry boats and Speedboats take 90-180 mins to travel to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam.
Domestic and Internal Flights
Air Tanzania, Precision Air, Eagle Air, Zan Air, Coastal Air are the regional small Aircrafts run schedule flights from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and to the various Regional Airports and the National Park Airstrips.
